Benefit Concert for Afghanistan on March 20th

BACH COMES TO LAFAYETTE!

To Purchase Tickets, go online: TIE Benefit Concert or call (925) (299-2010 Ext 4).

TIE has been extremely fortunate in enlisting people willing to headline fund raising events, including author Khaled Hosseini, comedian Mark Lundholm, Ambassador Jawad (former ambassador to the United States from Afghanistan), and magician, Patrick Martin.

I’m very pleased to announce our next get together will include Tanya Gabrielian, an internationally acclaimed concert pianist. Tanya, noted by the Washington Post for her “strikingly poised nobility” and “commanding presence” has performed at Carnegie and Alice Tully Halls in New York, Sydney Opera House, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, and the Salle Cortot in Paris.  Visit her website for more information (www.tanyagabrielian.com).

I met Tanya last summer at one of her performances in Bigfork Montana. Following her performance, I joined a long line of admirers and waited for my turn. I began by asking “Would you like to perform in Afghanistan”.  Her immediate response was, “yes!” That day may come, but not now.

After a few emails, telephone conversations, and a visit to our

website, Tanya wanted to support TIE and offered to perform a benefit concert  “when in town”. She’s in town March 20th and will perform that night at Acalanes High School. Brush up on your Bach. This event is co-sponsored by Students for Advancement of Global Education (SAGE), an Acalanes student organization that can always be counted on for help.
Tanya is, by the way, very entertaining and funny, someone children of all ages will enjoy. This is a wonderful opportunity to expose students to music they might otherwise not hear.
For years and whenever asked, Nazifa Sidiq, has provided delicious Afghan food prepared by her family’s company, Bolani. When asked again she said “Of course”. Arrive at 7:00 pm and leave room for their creations.
